Republican backlash over Trump-backed health care bill
Republican backlash over Trump-backed health care billUS President Donald Trump faced mounting concern from fellow Republicans Tuesday over their party's plan to replace Obamacare, with conservatives warning the bill was too similar to existing controversial health care law. Several far-right lawmakers said the Republican plan abandons conservative fiscal principles by maintaining government subsidies of the Affordable Care Act, but under the guise of "refundable tax credits" for people to purchase their own health insurance. "This is Obamacare Lite, it will not pass," fumed Senator Rand Paul on Fox News.

Malaysia says it foiled attack on Arab royalty ahead of Saudi king's visit
Malaysia says it foiled attack on Arab royalty ahead of Saudi king's visitKUALA LUMPUR/DUBAI (Reuters) - Malaysia said on Tuesday that suspected militants from Yemen arrested late last month ahead of a visit by Saudi King Salman had been planning an attack on Arab royalty. A senior Malaysian police source said the four suspects belonged to Yemen's Iran-allied Houthi movement, which hails from a Shi'ite Muslim sect and has been fighting other Yemeni forces backed by a Saudi-led military coalition for two years. Malaysian police had previously said the men were suspected of links to militant groups including Islamic State, which is Sunni Muslim and known by the Arabic acronym Daesh.

Rhino killed for its horn inside French zoo; rare old African elephant killed too
Rhino killed for its horn inside French zoo; rare old African elephant killed tooAnimal stories can't always be about exciting whale videos or pregnant giraffes. Sometimes, reality has to rear its ugly head. After all, iconic species like rhinos and elephants are increasingly threatened by poaching and habitat loss in the wild. This week, poachers in Europe and Africa made two particularly notable kills in what should've been safe spaces for wildlife. SEE ALSO: This national park tracked down rhino poachers thanks to a selfie Just outside Paris, assailants broke into the wildlife park at Thoiry Zoo overnight. They shot Vince, a 4-year-old white rhinoceros, three times in the head before using a chain saw to remove its horn, Thierry Duguet, the zoo's director, told the Associated Press on Tuesday. Image: AP/REX/Shutterstock Rhino horns are extremely valuable, and can be sold for up to 40,000 euros, or about $42,200, on the black market, the Le Parisien newspaper reported. Some cultures believe the horns have aphrodisiac powers or medicinal benefits. Elephant tusks are similarly coveted around the world, despite global efforts to halt the illegal flow of ivory. On Monday, poachers killed one of Africa's oldest and largest elephants in a Kenyan national park. The killing illustrates the peril that elephants face due to the ivory trade. Satao II, believed to have been about 50-years-old, belonged to a dwindling group of giant "tuskers." Their ivory teeth are so long they nearly scrape the ground, and only about 25 of these tuskers remain in the world, Richard Moller of the Tsavo Trust told AFP this week. Image: Eye Ubiquitous/REX/Shutterstock "They are icons, they are ambassadors for elephants," he said.  It's still unclear how poachers killed the elephant, though they may have shot it with a poisoned arrow. The tusker was roaming in the Tsavo National Park near Nairobi when he died. Kenyan authorities apprehended two poachers believed to be responsible for the elephant's killing. In Paris, however, police are still investigating the brazen rhino killing, and the suspects remain at large, AP reported. Deadly Mississippi train-bus collision
Deadly Mississippi train-bus collisionA freight train smashed into a charter bus in a coastal Mississippi city on Tuesday, pushing the bus 300 feet down the tracks and leaving at least four people dead, authorities said. Rescuers spent more than an hour removing passengers, cutting through the bus’s heavily damaged frame to extract the last two. The bus was apparently stopped on the tracks when the 52-car train, pulled by three locomotives, slammed into it, said Biloxi Police Chief John Miller.
